Commented Issue: Errors when installing Dropthings V2.3.2 [10689]

I downloaded Dropthings from http://dropthings.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/
According to the read.me, I installed the software but encountered 2 problems:

Wrong database version

According to readme.txt a database "SQL Server Express 2005" or "SWL Server 2005" is required.
When I start the application, I get the following error:

Error occured loading the page. Please ensure you have run the Setup page.
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: The database '...\DROPTHINGS_V232\DROPTHINGS\APP_DATA\DROPTHINGS.MDF' cannot be opened because it is version 655.
This server supports version 612 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported.
Could not open new database 'C:\USERS\ROGER\DOCUMENTS\VISUAL STUDIO 2008\PROJECTS\DROPTHINGS_V232\DROPTHINGS\APP_DATA\DROPTHINGS.MDF'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted.

To my opinion, this error occurs because the downloaded database is "SQL Server 2008" and not "SQL Server 2005" ("http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlexpress/thread/01ed3b1c-6f29-4518-a3a4-e4e35decc05f/")

-> Question: Is somewhere a database available for SQL server 2005 and V2.3.2 ?

Namespace "WebTesting" does not exist

When compiling the solution, I get 71 errors because the namespace WebTesting is not available
This namespace exists in the "Visual Studio Team Edition" but I use "Visual Studio 2008 Prof"
My workaround existed in Unloading the project "Dropthings.Test"

-> Question: Could someone add in Readme.txt the required versions of VS respectively my workaround for other users

Hi all,

congratulations for the great proejct.

I think that I've found a bug:

When I close settings programmatically via HideSettings functions, the link "close edit" in the widget title it left visible.

Upon registration, it sends me the confirmation email also, at the email address i provide, but still, its throwing this error. I downloaded the latest source code for Dropthings , and even when i try to run this project locally on my machine, and try to register a new user, it throws the same Error.

Does anybody know of the solution to this problem ? You can yourself experience this by Registering your self at ( http://dropthings.omaralzabir.com ), and provide me with the solution.

I followed the instructions to open the solution with Visual Web Developer 2008 Express, and it immediately tells me it cannot open any ".csproj" files. I tried the solution offered on another thread of deleting the following:

<ProjectTypeGuids>{14822709-B5A1-4724-98CA-57A101D1B079};{FAE04EC0-301F-11D3-BF4B-00C04F79EFBC}</ProjectTypeGuids> from Dropthings.Business.csproj

And this seems to temporarily fix the Dropthings.Business.csproj problem, however, it cannot open Dropthing.Silverlight.csproj no matter what I try (I tried deleting the ProjectTypeGuids line from that file as well, to no avail).

I've tried running devenv /setup, it did absolutely nothing.

It seems to me that VWD 2008 Express is unable to run this solution. Please help, I'm tearing my hair out!

Remove the proJectTypeGuid element from the project files- this doesn't work for EVERY project, but all but 1 or 2 work fine after this.

After a widget had been maximized to cross all 3 columns, the restore to single column function does not work.

I am running VS2008 SP1 with Silverlight Tools 2 intalled and SQL 2005 Express. I am running on a Vista x64 machine. I downloaded Dropthings V2.0 from http://code.google.com/p/dropthings/downloads/list. Intersting the readme file still says Dropthings v.1.7.0. I followed the istructions, and all required software was installed. When I went to opent the solution, I get this error:
...\Dropthing Portal 2.02\Dropthing2.0.2\src\Dropthings.Test.csproj' cannot be opened.' The Project Type is not supported by this installation.

Once I dispmiss this error, it does open the solution, but it will not run, I get a bunch of errors including:
1) The type or namespace name 'Framework' does not exist in the namespace 'Dropthings.Web' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
2) Metadata file 'C:\Users\Brian\Documents\ASP-Net\Dropthing Portal 2.02\Dropthings2.0.2\src\DashboardDataAccess\bin\Debug\Dropthings.DataAccess.dll' could not be found.

There are about 16 error similar to number 2. I follwed the instructions in the Readme file to a T. Is there other setup that I need to do to run this??

I'm using Dropthings-2.1-Src in VS 2008 with IIS and when I start the program shows several javascript errors like
"Sys not defined" in Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager....
or Sys.UI.Silverlight.Control.CreateObject
"Type not defined" in Type.registerNamespace('Dropthing.Web.Framework');
"Dropthings not defined" in window.proxy=Dropthings.Web.Framework.ProxyAsync;

I have searched a lot by google and I am desperate to solve this problem.
I atach the error. Please, anybody can help me?????

Hi I am facing one problem in dropthings. Whenever I customize my default page(i.e delete some widget, change position of widget) containing widgets, then I close my browser. When I again open browser it doesnt remember the customization done in previous session.

After login its remembering the customization. But without login its not remembering.

Can anybody help in this issue?

Drag a choice of widget from the 'add panel' to the widget container will remove it from the 'add panel'.

After you drag the widget to the widget container, the "column" you drag the widget to seems to have been disabled. No other widgets can be dragged to that particular column anymore.

Hi, I'm using version 2.1 after going trough a lot of trouble with version 1.7 and I ended up having the same problems so I decided to ask you guys about it. Whenever I launch the site from Visual Studio 2008 it works fine, but the when I publish it and configure the IIS to launch the site, it behaves weirdly:

- In version 1.7 widgets freeze when page loads, to unfreeze them you have to add a new item, but if you press Start Over, reload or go to antoher page, they freeze again.

- In version 2.1 widgets from the left column work well, the ones from the middle column are movable but not "drop-able" and the right column is totally frozen. If you add a new tab and start adding stuff, that suff works well, but if you start over... the issue appears again.

- in 2.1, after the widgets have gone crazy, they disappear if I try to drag them :-S

- RSS feeds don't work on version 2.1 launched on IIS.

What is the difference between launching from VS 2008 and publishing and running it in IIS?, what am I missing here? help please, I spend a LOT of time customizing my portal only to find out these issues just before going into production :-(

I got a javascript error while I tried to adjust the height of the widget by dragging on the toggle to do so.

I also downloaded + compiled + run Dropthings v2.1 and was able to replicate the issue.

Is it a known issue?
